I have become very interested in the low D dixon duo because it comes with the flute head and I’ve been interested in ‘branching out’. Can anyone recommend this instrument as a flute, a beginners flute perhaps, but something that wouldnt throw a beginner totally off?
Hey Nick; I am a total begginer at the flute and a newbee on the whistle also. I have the Dixon Low D combo and in my humble opinion it is not the way to go. It is a dandy low whistle but the flute head is less then encouraging for a bigginer. Better off to buy a low whistle and order one of Alan Mounts flutes. You will end up spendng about the same amount of money but you will have a much better flute. The pvc on the Dixon combo is very thin and my attempts to play with the flute head sounded more like a sound efects machine for a wind storm then music. When I got Alans flute it turned into music. Not good music put incouraging music. And I think those of us who would like to play the flute need, at least, some hope of being able to play it.
