December update

Well, maybe more of a make over than an update.

Anyway, “Whistles by Mack” has a new look thanks to the time and talents of
Peter M. Mogdans (our own peteinmn).

He gave me permission to tout his webmastery, so I will.

He is a professional with some really good examples to boast of****, but he offered to make some adjustments to mine in exchange for whistles. I
definitely got the better end of the deal!

Peter hinted that he might offer his skills to others who care to spend more
time making whistles and less struggling with HTM and FTP burdens. Of
course he’ll be working for pennies, I mean pennywhistles.

So back to the update: Not much new except that November orders are
spilling over into December because of a very busy October. December will
take a hit. I’m cutting off orders on December 10. Mack’s whistle shop
will convert to Santa’s helper’s work shop.

I’ll probably cave, but for now my mind’s made up. Sorta…

First of all I want to thank Mack for his kind words. He is really a pleasure to work with even though last night at around 11:00 pm we were sweating a little technical problem with his refurbished web site that turned out to be merely “pilot error” and was happily resolved.

Now on to serious whistle business. Since I have built up somewhat of a credit with Mack, I have to decide how to spend it on his fine whistles. I already have a Whitecap on an old Feadog tube and really like it. My question to the C&F gang is, if you were to order some of Mack’s whistles, which type and in which keys would be essential? I personally am leaning towards his Whitecap line in brass or aluminum. What say you? I’m getting the vapors just thinking about owning a batch of new whistles.

i really want one of his “whitecapwoods”
and a low E and F.
mack’s non tunable pvc in B is one of the best whistles i’ve ever played and has been played everyday since i received it.
sounds like you’re in for some fun decision making

PVC Low F.

Skipole C.

Redwood D and/or Eb.

MUST haves!

 Hate to horn in on peteinmn’s genius, but apparently I know no shame. Anyhoo…Im also a professional web developer and would be more than happy to create websites for pennywhistle credit. My company doesn’t allow freelancing, but barter falls outside of that.

I’ll repost my web resume and add that link to this post later. My resume is viewable at http://www.onlinescrapbooks.com/resume Warning: It doesn’t have flash detection in that directory currently. I moved it there when I found my job, but I’ll add in the detection scripts tonight.

Dalberon:

Bugger off!! You indeed have no shame whatsoever. If you persist, I have ways of finding you and then you won’t be able to use a keyboard, to say nothing of playing a whistle. Besides, I know I need more whistles more than you. Never get between a guy and a new scheme to aquire whistles. Consider yourself warned!

 LOL…that may be the first time I’ve personally been told to bugger off.

Are you SURE you need whistles more than me? I think new ones have some sort of contact drug that works in through the fingertips. Is there a “Pennywhistles Anonymous”?

Dalberon:

Ok, Ok I apologize about the bugger off crack. Instead, piss off, scram, get lost, take a hike, etc. Yes, I do need more whistles than you. They are my drugs of choice and this here street corner isn’t big enough for the both of us!

Had I only known there was competetion…

I love my whitecap A in aluminum. I find ornaments easier on this whistle than my other ones including the whitecap D and the hybrid Clare-whitecap.

The main reason I like the A is the extra notes so I can play tunes that go below the bottom D. Most of the other keys I have just sit, but I actually use the A.

I have a “skipole” C (at least that’s what i think it’s called, it’s conical, aluminum, non-tuneable) that’s just amazing. Best C whistle anywhere.
The PVC lows have a very good reputation too, but i don’t have one.
I read somewhere of a whistle Mack made that has a controllable voicing window so it can play loud or soft, that looked really interesting.

Anyway, those are my picks.

I own a set of 5 ski-pole Hoovers. Wouldn’t want to part with them. Also own a Whitecap or two. You cannot go wrong with an instrument of either kind from Mack…
Best.
Byll

And here I always thought his name was Pete Inman!!!

Robin

I don’t know about essential, but I really like the sound sample on Mack’s site of the Hoover brass low G.

I have a Whitecap and it really improved the sound of my Feadóg, but I think it sounds better on the Hoover CPVC Soprano D body.

Lawrence

I have a whitecap aluminum in Bb. It’s to die for.

Ditto what Didy said!

Thanks Mack!

Cheers,
Kathy

i have nearly a full set of mack’s marvelous whistles (low d, low f, low g, 2- a’s, b, c, two hi d’s). i agree with brian, on the ski pole c - awesome. and the low f - wonderful. but i would add a pvc a whose voice is probably the best whistle i’ve played. something magical about it. i would also add that i have found his pvc and whitecap work to be especially good. my wife really enjoys the whitecap b. so in conclusion - you can’t make a bad choice.
