David Daye set

I’m debating between a starter set and a 3/8 set. If you’ve heard the 3/8 set, how are the drones? Worth it, or should I just stick to the starter set?

what the he$$ is a 3/8 set of Uilleann pipes?

Do these beasties come in 8 stages?

Crap, I thought it was 3 or 4?!

:boggle:

I’m very interested in the starter set or 3/8 set as I have not played pipes before. Does anyone have any feedback on these? I had previously been warned against starter sets from some of the music supply houses. I know as far as instruments go, ‘good’ and ‘cheap’ are seldom in the same sentence. I don’t want to spend a lot of money starting out, but I’d like to get something of quality to learn on. If not these, any other suggestions?

I’ve heard good things about Daye’s practice set - its great quality for the price. What I’m on the fence about is the budget drones.

From his site:

A “Practice Set” in the “Easy Kit” form with partial stand of the 2 smaller Budget Concert Drones and mini-mainstock added for a more musical experience when practicing. The drones are finished and simply need to be attached to the bag as part of the kit assembly. CLICK HERE for drone details. Drones are completely finished, ready to tie into bag and play.

I am a new uilleann piper and got a practice set from David Daye. The sound is very good and well worth the money. The service is very good and he has been in business for some time. I’ve listened to his drones and will be buying them soon.

Good luck on your decision!

Dukkha,
May not be an issue for you. Daye has temporarily stopped taking any drone orders until his drone queue is caught up. Get the practice set. Adding the drones later is not difficult.
Peace!
