The NewSassySackSuperShepherd- a folding, semi-rigid-supported case.
Several people have expressed a distrust of a roll’s ability to offer adequate protection for valuable instruments. Although the roll does offer great protection, I can see their point, and want to make an alternative available. The SassySack Super Shepherd will hold 8 whistles up to Bb in length, plus a cleaning rod.
This is a double version of the SassySackShepherd, with high-impact acyrlic panels inserted in the case cover at front, back, top, and side panels to add more rigid support and protection. As you can see from the top-down view, the whistles are not rubbing up against each other at all. Future versions will feature a removeable shoulderstrap, and an option still in the planning stages is a center leaf that will double capacity.

… and I’ve got books to buy for two kids going into college!!!
Yes, there is, and it turned out excellently. I’m very pleased with the way the design worked up. It warrents pursuit, I think, and I am already working on improvements.
Hmm… it’s about 10" wide … If I don’t go to even stiffer rigid panels, I suppose it could work, since the panels used at present have some bendability, … perhaps with two loops… Now… it could be made as a closed case, where you access them from the top, without unfolding… that might work… (edited to add:) however, it would necessitate a change in the top panel, as it is would need to be curved.(end of edit)
Well now you’ve done it! The wheels are turning and I’ve got to stop at the drawing board on my way back to the sewing machines.
I’ve always been thinking how to make a super sturdy quiver-style case that would combine the beauty of the upholstered cases and the protection of, say, PVC pipe. I may have it now.
Just what I needed… another new project! Don’t worry folks, those already ordered will get finished before I immerse totally into the next design.
I’m adjusting the whole pattern before making the replacement… so any serious suggestions would be most welcome!!
Here’s the current list of changes I’ve already decided on:
extending the overall length by a full inch (plus a half inch for corner emphasis)
loosening the tubes a bit
adding a removable shoulder strap
stitching the corners for more squared fold
adjusting the snaps on the side for easier closure
adding a full width pocket on the back
… oh, and Press Cloth used at All times!! and put the label on early. (insert favorite palm-slapping-forehead emoticon here)
It could have been a major “‘minor’ problem” … the key to finding a harmonious solution is playing the tune…er… deal … cooperatively .. I couldn’t ask for better clients than C&F Folk, I can tell you.
Alas, this case turned out a bit too short for the client’s flute, so it is still available for sale at only $205. SPOKEN FOR! - SALE PENDING
