CP (kind of): The Aebi RAFP (Roving Ambassador Flute Player)

My friend - and flute maker - Tom Aebi has equipped me with his newest stuff: His new Rudall & Rose style D flute and his D chanter (uilleann pipe that is). I’ll be on tour through the US with my band Cara from Thursday on and I’d like to make a bit of promotion for his instruments. Tom is based in the Swiss mountains and does not travel much, nor is he a web guy. He’s just a wonderful craftsman and musician who spends all of his time at the lathe. So I thought I’d give him some support to get his instruments better known across the pond. The plan is: any flute player or piper who happens to be at any of the venues below is welcome to see me at the CD stand or the stage after the gig and ask me to try out the sticks (pipers, you must already be able to play the uilleann pipes, I’m a bit worried about the reed…).

And here are the dates:

13th - 16th Aug: Milwaukee Irish Fest
18th Aug: Lewiston, ME
19th Aug: East Dixfield, ME
20th Aug: Rangeley, ME
21st Aug: East Hartford, CT
22nd-23rd Aug: Sterling, NY
28th Aug: Flagstaff, AZ
29th Aug: Tucson, AZ
5th-6th Sept: Kansas City Irish Festival

There are links to these venues on my band’s website: http://www.cara-music.com (tourdates).

It won’t hurt to send me a PM if you’re going to meet me at any of those places, so I’m prepared…

You may even come to our concerts if you’re not interested in Tom’s stuff

Thanks
Claus

Folks, do try the flute and pipes! I haven’t played the chanter yet (and I’m far from being able to judge it anyway), but the flute is by far the best thing I tried so far. It took me about three seconds to decide whether to order one or not…deposit placed, flute to be ready in march 2010.

Viel Spaß da drüben, Claus

Judging from the hundreds of downloads of the Aebi brochure from my link ( http://www.box.net/shared/ju0mfhehp8 ), there should be plenty of interest. Let me know if that material goes out of date.

Kevin Krell

Danke Steffen!

Kevin, I think the brochure should be up to date till the end of this year. Thanks for putting it online!

Claus

I hung out with Onkel a couple of times while his band was touring the states and I can attest to the fact that the Aebi flute is very powerful and should satisfy a dedicated Rudall player - Onkel certainly makes his sound like an airhorn. I think a good player couldn’t go wrong with one of these, although I could hardly coax a squeak out of it!

Also, C&F’ers, be sure to check out Cara if you get a chance - they do not disappoint.

Deleted, since Tom has a web page with updated info:

Ooops, I’m getting private messages now that this thread was brought back to life. Please note that the dates above refer to last year, so I won’t be in the US again this year, unfortunately.

Now that I’m at it: You have to know Liney Bear to understand what he means by “hardly coaxing a squeak”.. You sounded great on that flute, honestly! You’re a savage player!
