Clarke Original -- Standard vs. Tweeked (Tweaked)?

FYI I spelled “tweaked” both ways for future searches.

Anyway, who has, or has played both of these and can compare them?

I should be able to successfully mash the top of the windway myself, but can’t cut/shape the mouthpiece. It looks like these are the two main things different about the tweaked version.

If I can mash the windway myself, is it worth the extra $15 to get the tweaked version?

Thanks,
Jason

‘Mash’ sounds like the wrong verb to use for describing alterations to musical instruments! :boggle:

It is going to depend if you mash it evan, and then raise or lower the blade to split the air stream. I have both mashed and un mashed. If you mash it yourself find something to use as a spacer such as a feeler gauge to stop the mashing where you want it.

How about modify the windway by closing the end of it a little.

HULK SMASH!

OK, maybe “mash” is not the best term.

Can anyone compare the standarda to the tweeked?

In case it’s not clear, I’m trying to decide if it’s worth the extra $$$ to get the tweeked version from The Whistle Shop.

Thanks,
Jason

I haven’t played a pro tweaked Clarke. I tweaked a few myself though. It’s very easy. You can both “mash” the windway and adjust the fipple blade yourself. And you can keep doing it until you’re happy with it. I haven’t yet bought a pro tweaked whistle. I’m not saying I never will, but up until now it has felt really redundant. I can tweak cheapies myself, so when I buy a whistle for more than $8 or so, it’s usually hand made.
