Clare vs. good ole' generation

Hi all,
I was browsing the whistle shop and I was very curious about the similarities between the generation brass and the clare brass, (I once had a feadog brass that I loved until it, eh, died of overuse  (oops), and I was looking at some other pure-drop instruments.) The clare and the generation have VERY similar Mouthpieces and I was wondering what the difference is between them. Note, the hump on the generation labium is slightly larger and more pronounced than on the clare it seems, I don’t know if that would make a noticeable difference in sound. Also, the window on the clare seems larger :boggle: . What is the difference in sound between the two? anyone?
Thanks a lot,
whistle-lover

Mainly, the Generation sounds like a Generation, and the Clare sounds like a Clare.

Seriously, I find the Clare has a breathier, less focused sound than the Gen, and rather closer to the Waltons. I wouldn’t overthink the design details; they’re just different. The Clare plastic is also more brittle and tends to crack when the head is adjusted. But one of my favorite whistles is a Gen head on a Clare 2-piece tube.

If you play the 2 you will see the difference immediately. I have Clares, Gens and Walton’s they are different from each other. The Clare most resembles the Feadan which is no longer made.

I like the sound of my Clare two-piece much more than my Generation. But my Generation is nickel. I can’t describe the difference in words.
