Hm, I have a job now and thus a bit of cash and I want a new whistle, but can’t decide which. I can afford to spend around 100 bucks (so no silver copeland for me boo hoo). I’m leaning towards an elfsong or hoover, but I’m not sure. I don’t want to deal with 6 month long waiting lists either.
Any suggestions?

I love the Elfsong Soprano D. Less than $100, too.
You can also get a Burke for around that amount and the wait is reasonable.

I have an Elfsong, which I love, FWIW. I play it every single day.
What qualities are you looking for in the new whistle?
It’s easier to make suggestions if you know what you want. Is not waiting the only qualifier?
i’ve tried many whistles, and only bought burkes. i never looked back
, never waist my time for another make. but taste is individual, have a listen at www.tinwhistletunes.com first, find out if your likings have backpressure or not, also what boresize do your hands prefer in a certain key?
Can’t go wrong with a Burke, any Burke, they’re all good. Or, if you want something louder, a Water Weasel.
What I’m looking for basically is a soprano D that has a tone similar to an Oak or Generation without all that scratchy or windy business mucking up the sound. A good clean, clear sound; not too loud, with a medium air requirement. Also, I prefer metal (I have a special affinity for anything made out of copper, whistle or otherwise) to wood or plastic materials

My vote is for Elfsong.

Yep, you described the Elfsong perfectly! Sounds like that’s the whistle for you. Now comes the hard part…copper or brass? And what color?

Copper. Natural finish. Oh yea… ![]()
Clear sound, no windiness, copper, under $100?
Parkhurst is my answer. It’s a beauty by itself just from the finish and etching of the raw metal, and the choice of “practice” quietness or session volume. The comfort of the mouthpiece is a bonus by itslef.
As for current delay, ask, just ask Dave Parkhurst
Well I’ve ordered my Elfsong D in natural finish. I’ll keep the parkhurst and Burke in mind if I ever get a case of WhOA again in the future, but I think this will keep me happy for now.
