Chiff and Fipple Wars

The movie was written by Nick Adams who is a piper and whistleplayer as well as a pipe and whistlemaker, he worked for Mary Bergin and her husband Bruce DuVe in Spiddal during the early 80s. After Bruce divorced and went into accupuncture Nick was pipemaker in Miltown Malbay until relocating to CA to work as a scriptwriter. He is around here often, saw him very recently. The film was made several years ago now, music is by Paul McGrattan, PAdraig macmathuna Harry Bradley and many other wellknown musicianers.

I’ve seen this movie. It’s pretty good if you want to see a fun, light-hearted comedy and some Irish music.

It’s called “The Boys and Girl From County Clare”, but if you do an IMDB.com search it’s under “The Boys From County Clare”. “The Great Ceili War” is its original working title. (2003)

There are tin whistlers in there but I believe they are only shown in children’s competitions. The character Teddy is a flute player and Anne is a fiddler.

It debuted the Film Fleadh festival on March 2. It’s an independent film so I don’t know if it will see a full release. It opened in US theaters I believe on March 11 under limited release. I dunno if it’s still playing. Check local listings

In the US, it’s available through Netflix.

Oooh good to know  I’ll wait for the DVD.

So is it out on DVD??- I saw this in the NY Times review in March :adminok: :adminok:

hmmm would be nice if the europeans also got a dvd of this one

I got to see it as well last June at the Seattle International Film Festival 'cept it was just titled the Boys from County Clare…FUN film. Though, I’ll admit, I do like the title The Great Ceili War better. They probably had to change it because people probably had trouble pronouncing ‘Ceili’…I didn’t know how to pronounce it till I saw the film..

The film isn’t available on Netflix yet(have a membership and tried to order but couldn’t) and wont’ be out on dvd they say until October…but that may depend on the films success because it has yet to be released in all the states.

Yeah I like the Great Ceili War title better, but I have to admit too I didn’t know how to pronounce it until I saw the movie. I kept wondering for a few minutes…what the heck is “Kay-lee”?

For Europe…the film is supposed to be premiering at the Belfast Film Festival. Other than that…no clue about general release.

DVD? Should be out by next year? crosses fingers
