Chanter reed width vs length (D-reed)

Heippa there,
Experiments with reedhead width vs reed length and vice versa (D-reed)
Main effects. How about scrape length vs reed width. (Seen some very
strangecut heads :astonished: )

I am always amazed why some differently sized staple/heads can sound so similar and still be in tune in the same chanter.

It seems to come down to what your reedmaking luck/skill ratio is and I know of no way to find that out.

My Hillmann D works best on a slightly larger than normal generic Rowsome design, while my Nick Whitmer D works well the Seth Gallager D reed design.

My Seth Gallagher C design works well with his reed design on his website also excellently with a reed made by Dickie Deegan of Tasmania in '92 designed for a Woof C chanter (I keep wanting to give it a copule of scrapes, but I don’t think it has been played for a long time, so it may just need playing in again. I think reeds forget how to be reeds when not played often.)

I think you have to never make the good folk mad at you…
