Can everyone look at this, please?

I believe I sold him a whistle once, and yes, the communication was slow, but I did get payment. I doubt it is a deal gone bad, but just poor communication and timing. He may be out of town on business or vacation too.

Border deals always have the possibility of extra time added to receiving goods or payment, and why some limit transactions to the US only. Customs can slow things to a crawl sometimes too!

Good luck, but it’s probably OK for the deal either way, if you don’t receive payment, he will most likely make good anyway in the end.

me too

Hello, everyone. I seem to be the topic of this discussion so I thought I’d chime in.

I’ve been away from my house on business in an area with no internet (yes, in some areas, they lack internet connections) so I apologize for my long delay in returning to the forums and responding to this problem.

I have also found that my account as “dtravers” doesn’t seem to be working any longer. I am not sure if that is a result of a password error on my part or a suspension of the account due to this discussion. Either way, I have re-registered under this account name for the time being.

Now, I have sent two cheques to Patrick. The first went MIA in the post so I cancelled it and sent another right out and then was called away on business. Through reading this forum post, I see the second one has apparently failed to arrive as well. I will cancel that one tomorrow.

Patrick, if you send me your contact info again, now that I am back in this country, I can send another cheque out first thing tomorrow. Or, if you would rather, I can electronically transfer the sum to your Paypal account or I can do an Interac email money transfer.
I would prefer to do the Interac money transfer as it would arrive immediately and you could retrieve it through an online banking account.

Anyway, please email me at derektravers AT hotmail DOT com and we can decide how to remedy this situation. Again, I apologize for being out of touch for so long but I had assumed the cheque had arrived, been cashed and all was fine.

Thanks,

-Derek-

PS greenspiderweb, you did once sell me a whistle. It was quite a while ago. Thanks for the kind words.

I think Derek is owed apologies from several people on this forum.
It is an old adage that the man who is least trusting is the least trustworthy.
Honi soit qui mal y pense …and all that.

Yeah, I mean, I didn’t have anything to do with this situation and I am compelled to apologize… sorry Derek.

Time to kiss and make up folks.

I am not too proud to apologize.
I am sorry if I’ve offended.

Thanks
Mary

I’m trustworthy

No, the dtravers account probably wasn’t suspended on account of
this discussion. That appears to leave ‘password error’ as
the best explanation.

I guess it would have been better not to assume the second cheque
had arrived and all was well, especially as the first check didn’t.

If called away on business, it might be helpful to let the
fellow on the other end know you’ll be gone, in case the
second cheque doesn’t arrive. PM would do it.

There’s more to doing business than being honest.

I don’t know Derek, and far be it from me to cast doubt upon his character, but several things don’t add up. First, how did he come to know that the first check went missing? Second, two missing checks??? I don’t think so. The only “lost in the mail” that ever happened to me was from someone who owed me money.

Then, he’s gone on business, but has no access to email? His C & F account dies? This sounds like a bad script from “I Love Lucy.”

I hope everything works out for the best, but save the champagne for when the check actually arrives.

I don’t think any apologies are owed; If Derek is okay, and I surely hope he is, that’s great, but the circumstances certainly merit concern.

i love the icon! is it new?

Ya, you like my new dew?

Thanks for the apologies, guys, but they really aren’t needed. I took no offense as everyone was merely reacting as I would have reacted had I read the same post.

jim stone: Yes, looking back on it, it might have been better to not assume the second cheque would arrive alright. But I did assume that and there isn’t much to be done about it now.
As for PMing Patrick about my leaving on business, I didn’t think that was anyone’s business but my own. Like I said, I assumed all would be well.

Cubitt: There isn’t much to “add up” except that you guys only got the unfortunate area of this transaction story.
I knew the first cheque went missing because Patrick and I were communicating through PM on this site until I went away. I had learned the first cheque failed to materialize and had sent another before leaving.
Yes, I was gone on business and yes, in many parts of Africa, there is no access to the internet, even in some larger areas. So no email. I don’t check this forum that often and I didn’t have my account set to send me emails for PMs here.
As for the account on this site, I did say that it might be my own fault. I did change many of my passwords to forum sites like this and I might be trying the wrong one on this site.

So, nothing to be concerned about. As soon as Patrick contacts me, this will all be sorted out.

Thanks!

-Derek-

no worries, Derek. The original post read that you two had only communicated that the flute had been received. Nothing about a lost check. That’s why it seemed strange.

Cheers.

another case solved by the c&f internet fraud investigation team! now onto the case of a missing wylde flute last seen in ireland. jim, pack your bags…

I’m game…

Finally, research has discovered jim stone’s true identity:

Also, here’s a rare video clip of Jim on the case:

Well, Jack Web is better at staying in character than
Jack Paar.

But honestly it isn’t the sleuthing that attracts me
to this new caper–it’s going to Ireland.
But first I’ve got to solve the case of
the swiped bodhran in Bali.

I heard it was a black bodhran.

Oh, and that was Johnny Carson, not Jack Parr.

I returned a DVD burner to a company on the East coast because it arrived broken (power cord pins broken), but they insist they never received it. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a tracking number so now I’m out 80 bucks. Its not unheard of to have mail going missing, even though I wonder if it was the negligence of the company.
