Any resident or ex-pat of the UK who is into session music MUST go here http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/licensing and sign the petition against the Government proposal to make all live music (and that includes informal pub sessions) an activity that requires a licence.
Thi is another stealth tax and is a deplorable proposal. WE MUST get this scrapped.
Allthough I cannot sign the petition (myself being in Canada) my heart (and therefore support) goes with you. My fondest memories of visits to england were the pub sessions.
Best of luck in shooting this down, and I uge anyone able to sign the petition do so!
Just because there’s a petition up on that site doesn’t mean there’s a proposal for any such law. Last time I saw a petition on this subject (a couple of months ago, probably the same one but I haven’t looked) no law had been passed or was even in the process of being passed which was going to put in place the limits mentioned within that petition.
That site is useful for petitioning against bills which have been proposed but it’s also dangerous because any member of the public can waste people’s time by putting up frivolous petitions against bills that only exist in their head. Most recently someone forwarded a link to a petition which claimed that parliament were trying to pass a law to stop people taking photos in public places. Absolute nonsense.
Aside from that any change to licensing laws brought in by Westminster would only affect England & Wales as it’s a devolved power to the Scottish Parliament.
Yep. While I did sign that, or something similar, a while back as a kind of just-in-case, there does seem to be a lot of confusion.
Not sure if this is the same one, but when I researched it before, I could find no clear, reliable reference to a new law. There was one that already came in a while back, but even that was not as described when one read in depth.
