Hello Folks
Need some advice from all the experience out there. Can you recommend a good mid price C whistle?
I have a O Brien D and was also considering the purchase a C body for it. ![]()
Thanks in advance,
Fredo

If you’ve got an O’Brien D, and you like it, I see no reason not to get a C body for it.
If you really want a different C whistle, you can’t go wrong with a Syn C.
I’m sure this is overdone… but, it would be a sin, to not own a Syn… haha…
Seriously though, they are great whistles, and Erle is a great guy to do business with.
Mack Hoover will build you one to your specifications…
Best.

I would also say if you like the O Brian D get the C also. Feadog also makes a good C. Waltons C sounds good with a tweak.
Honestly I never met a C I didn’t like…I think I have 'em all from Gen through Abell, Sweetheart, Walton’s, Syn, Burke. . .If you have a D that you like, why not just try the associated C?
Terrific available C whistles for me are Sindt, Burke black tip, Erle’s Black Diamond.

The John Sindt C whistle is the finest C whistle I have EVER played.

I have to agree that it’s hard to find a C that I don’t like. It’s sort of like that for Bb for me too.
I use the Obrien C tube now exclusively (and his Bb). With the choice of heads I find that I can vary the sound and feel just fine with only one tube.
Of course, as I said above, it’s not too hard to find a C that you can be happy with.
I’ve been waiting patiently for my Sindt C that I ordered a year ago. Apparently, I still have a month or two to wait…
Susato C’s are very good too.
The Jerry Freeman tweaked Generation C is an excellent whistle, $40.

I’ve played some nice high end whistles (Burke, and Water Weasel among them) but I still keep coming back to that trad sound of the Clarke. Their C whistle is quite lovely. It’s mellow and a little chiffy, and the cedar block smells good
Of course, it’s all a matter of preference.
All the best in your search!
Sindt all the way.
Buy a Susato C whilst you are waiting for the Sindt to arrive. Have a listen to what Cormac Breatnach does with one!

The Sindt C I have is probably the nicest sounding of any whistle I have ever played.
I thought you preferred Humphreys, James. No more?
Blackhawk, if you have ever tried a Sindt C, you would know. BTW, I sold the D I had, but kept the C.

Why hasn’t anybody recommended a Weston whistle? I’ve rarely ever read about one on the forum before. I have one in C and it’s amazing! Not only does it sounds lovely, but it’s so easy to play.
You should check them out. I have a wooden one (I don’t know about the metal whistles).
Actually, I bought Wilsing’s Sindt C, so I do know. It’s wonderful.
