C Foot?

HI all. I have a quetion about the c/c#. I have an 8 key rudall copy. I think I remember reading omewhere that ome flute player don’t like the Cfoot b/c it weakens the bottom D. I this true, or is it jut here say? can anyone tell me what they have found from their experrience of playing 8 key vs 6 or 4 key flutes. Thanks a lot.

It may depend on the flute, and/or the player. On my Noy 8-key, the bottom D is quite strong and reedy. I seem to recall the same on a Williams (8-key body with an Olwell head) I used to own. I’ve played at least the Noy with those keys off, and detected no difference I could remark on. YMMV.

d’uh!

is in da bore…

On my Aebi Pratten, the low D barks like hell with the low keys on. With the low keys taken off, it barks even more hellish. What is hellisher than hell?

I don’t notice much difference on my 8-key. It’s strong and reedy enough with the keys on.

But it should be as easy for you to remove them and give it a try as it was for me writing these lines..

Now for another
whisky

short foot or long foot is secondary to the overall design and how well the maker voices the instrument. so i think they have the final word on how well or not the low d is going to sound regardless of foot length.
