“Handmade” whistles are, of course, a natural “collector’s” type item. I am therefore delighted to have acquired a few of them, (being a player of whistles) before collectors get financially between the makers and the players. This isn’t to denigrate wealth and whimsical spending…but rather a sigh of relief…that being of modest means, I’m able to enjoy these beautifully crafted instruments while they’re available to me.
OTOH, having collectors seek out good handmade whistles encourages good craftspeople to more vigorously ply their trade. Thus, more good whistles hitting the streets for all of us to enjoy.
Interest in whistles, regardless of purpose, leads to more good whistles, (a very good thing, no?).
Market dynamics are of scant interest to me. But I share the same basic greed as most. I want what I want…even though I probably can’t outbid someone who has more expendable cash. Hence my joy at having latched on to some of these gems.
How “fast” the real craftspeople amongst us can pump out top notch whistles…dunno.
