So, we know about Charlie and Aaron and me, but who are the other Breton afficionados around these parts? I’m wondering about the wisdom of doing a Breton session at Killington this year. Whadaya think?
how bout inviting these guys on either side of me?

Jorji Botuha is a pipemaker so he could set up a table at the Gathering. I’d like to try his wares. His instruments have quite the reputation.
I’d like to get Jean Baron and Christian Anneix, Patrick Molard and numerous others across for the Gathering sometime soon. On the makers side, I’ll not even begin to go into how much I’d love to get Hervieux et Glet to have someone from their firm come over sometime.
How about this additional question: What’s your musique bretonne wish list for such an event? (Performers, makers, it’s all fair game.)
Aaron theyre a dream.

Bill, re, getting players over…ya oughta talk to Lois. She’s the one to know.
Kevrenn Alre must have been playing Botuha chanters, no?
And thanks for the nod but I’m going to apply for a downgrade from ‘Breton afficionado’ to ‘sonneur fauteuil.’ If asked I could only play the odd Hanter Dro or Rond but I’d be hard pressed to pull off a derobée, laridé let alone a hanter zan or kas ha bar.
Gille (Jil) Lehart would be another luthier/player to suggest for the Gathering. Or how about Patrick Molard? He plays GHB, UP, SSP and biniou kozh and probably others we don’t know about.
made the whole kit+ kaboodle. Phillipe’s Biniou was nicely beaded + combed, chalice top with some inlay. It was the most comfortable levriad Ive ever held.
The keywork on the bombardes was better than some keywok Ive seen on Loree + Rigoutat (oboe&English Horns): to boot, the ebony felt like velvet. I was astounded.
I didnt get too close of a look at his Biniou Bras, but If im not mistaken (my French…another story…) the drones had a smaller bore to allow the chanter sound to play silences easier. The chanters seemed pretty normal, altho maybe somewhat quieter than the usual “in-yer-face-AND-up-yer-kilt” current GHB preference.
Pictures, Charlie! We want pictures!
By silences is that when pipers just blow the drones and cut their chanters in and out?
That makes sense about the more subdued chanters since bagadoú are more ensemble and concert oriented, even when they compete.
Oui.
If you’re really serious about bringing Breton musicians over this year, you share a common goal with http://www.bzh-ny.org. They’ve already hosted a group besides KevrennAlre on 4/27. If anyone can make it happen, they will. They WANT to bring musicians over. This is who to talk to, and Lois too.
Pictures: plenty on the bzh-ny site, + videos too.
theres only one I can find with their instruments; + it wont link up.(#19 in the Philly gallery)
I was looking at those photos just a day or 2 ago and was highly amused to see a statue of Ben Franklin identified as Abraham Lincoln. (Wonder how they felt about bagpipes…?)
One annoying thing about their tour, though… The Zebulon (Monday night show) is supposed to do a live web feed of all their shows and I couldn’t get it to load or play that night… Talk about frustration…
Only in America…
