Brand new ALBA High D Parlour; but no cool rings

I want to start with a giant thankyou! to almost all of you on this forum…THANKYOU!

I have been reading your posts (old and new) for a while now…I got myself a Blue Acorn at my local Music shop and all my neighbors are ready to evict me…lovely!!!

Now…to the point…I ordered an Alba Saprano high D Parlour Whistle from BWM (way across the sea). I picked the Alba for many reasons, most of which I learned from this great site. I also thought that a good sturdy aluminium whislte with such cool looks would make me take it everywhere and someday make acceptable music. (maybe not). I picked the Parlour D over the Q1 for the cool rings etched around the shaft.

My Alba is here…no rings…not a one. Now don’t get me wrong…this whistle is cool (limited knowledge understood)…but I know COOL.

BUTTT…no rings? Is this the Alba of the future? Ringless and Proud?

Thanks again for such a great site. [/b]

Thanks for all the info on my new ALBA without the decorative rings!!!

You people have been a hoot!!! :imp:

My “smooth” ALBA and I will look for a different site.

?

:really:

Though Stu H quoted our friend incompletely. Further it said:

It looks cryptic at first, but’s in only a program:

(1) post, (2) hit and (3) run…

Maybe he thought it’s a chat, not a message board?

Probably his shoes are too tight.

I remember getting worried when no one responded to my posts in the beginning. Weekenders suspected himself of killing threads for a time. I think the proud owner of the ringless Alba thought that we were ignoring him.

JJH: Welcome to the board!

Sometimes people won’t respond because they don’t know the answer to the question (except in the political threads, of course).

Can we see some pictures of the smooth Alba?

And maybe a picture of one with the rings too.

Heck, I lost count of how many threads I have killed or been “ignored” on, totally. Does it bug me? I am not sure. I have over 700 posts now and will decide at 1000 if it does. In the mean time:

This thread can die now.

Nothing I like better than giving dying threads a quick punt!
No you guys. C’est moi. I am the THREAD KILLER.
(watch. It will now die.)

btw, if I had to guess, I’d say the offended originator of this thread is comparing his new Alba with one that’s pictured on Stacey’s web page.

Lazarus, rise and walk!

The source for the whistle was probably Big Whistle Shop;
from its online line-up of high Albas http://bigwhistle.co.uk/shop_results.asp?search=2&maker=25&highlow=3&key=11&tunable=2&cat=*
it may appear that only the non-tunable Parlour model would have kept Alba’s old style ridges.

I’d suggest returning the whistle to Mr BigWhistle, since it doesn’t match the photo, AND the customer chose it just for that–the ridges…

Not entirely unreasonable. The Alba site still shows the Highlander but we know (from a previous thread) that it hasn’t been available for many months.

Patently Stacey’s a victim of her own success and has been far too busy making her lovely whistles to attend to updating the web site.

However, I personally don’t give a hoot my Alba plays just beautifully and looks great, with or without rings.

waitingame

Of course the one pictured there doesn’t have rings:

Maybe he’s confusing the Q1 and the parlour whistle?

I didn’t know about the “outdoor whistle”. Looks interesting.

One day someone will write a college thesis on all the different Alba models. I wonder if Stacey knows all of them.

Same site, the Parlour non-tunable does show a couple cutesies, though…

I wonder why they supply it with a metal metric ruler?
For a slide trombone, I’d understand…

Good question. I’m sure people here can come up with good answers.

I thought the aluminum ruler was the raw material for making the whistle.
