I’d be surprised; the Parsees are at the top, or close to it, of the indian caste system, depending on who’s counting. My family’s friend Dinshah, an indian-born nuclear engineer, once talked about going back to india for his father’s funeral, and being half-shocked half ok with it going upo onto the tower for the birds.
At the other end of the caste system, however, the river Ganges has for years been the budget funeral director. India went to the trouble of importing foreign snapping turtles for their scavenging prowess, to prevent the river–also supposedly ‘health-giving’ to drink–from becoming a disease transmission vector.
I’ve read that there are firms which fish bodies from the river downstream of major cities, which do get processed into medical skeletons.
