they are “du” and “du”. Babelfish gave the 2nd set of characters
for the English “bean”.

Yep - Korean. Checked out their Han’gul system, once, and it’s interesting. Each symbol is constructed from mini-elements, so that “du” has the D element above, and the U element below in this case. It’s almost alphabetic that way. The Japanese syllabaries don’t have that feature.
