Best Flute Under $100

I need a good Flute the one I have now isn’t. What is the best $100 or below, low D, plastic or wood Flute.

I’d have to say an Olwell bamboo.

Agreed.

Avery, You need to come up with harder questions…

What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

What do you mean? An African or European swallow?

or a tallgrass winds…nothing wrong with those (professional version)
I have a Eb…price is same as olwell as far as I know.

The Olwell waiting list is long and I need it before the end of this month. So I am going with the Tallgrass Winds.

Dear Unseen,

You set for us quite a big problem.

I would have recommended an Olwell bamboo flute myself too - but you can’t wait long.

I have no better idea, I can recommend you a one piece (or tuneable) Tony Dixon polimer flute. It’s not a bad deal, if you want to buy something cheap, but good. If you are an experienced session-player you will be able to play quite a fine music on it.

Somebody else can tell something more clever?

[Unseen wrote] My Motto for whistlers “Just get a Dixon already.” [/quote]

 Oh, my God! I forgot your footnote! I’m always so thoughtless and regardless and forgetful! You know, I’m studying philosophy… I forgot that you already have a Dixon flute. I feel myself so ashamed.

But my opinion is the same - under a hundred dollars you won’t get any better.

Any minority (majority) report?

Bennett

I think you misunderstood my “motto” notice whistlers I have a Dixon whistle not flute. I guess I might just follow my own advice then.

I would not recommend a Dixon cylindrical flute. An Olwell or Tallgrass bamboo flute will be much better.

get the dixon conical instead! but not very easy to learn on although it helps you to get a good focussed embouchure
bit above your price range also.
but very rich complex sound.

That is not my price range that is all the money I have. :frowning:

So, yesterday I was at this music store they had a Hall crystal there, I tryed it and fell in love with it, I bought it and the tone on it is not like anything I have ever heard warm and clear but enough edge to play ITM great for airs though, a great flute anyone else have one?

If you are just looking for a bang-around, go anywhere flute, the Doug Tipple PVC flute is a good choice. For around $50 you can get a 3 piece flute that plays well.

hmmm . . . i’d like to see someone compare a romy benton bamboo flute to the olwell or tallgrass…a battle of the bamboo perhaps

Tomcat:
I can compare the tallgrass to the Olwells, at least the ones I had/have.
TO MY EAR, the tallgrass are nice, but I prefer the Olwells.

the romy benton bamboo flutes are beautiful, but look to be much more expensive than either of the others ~ a reason I have not ordered one yet, though I might be tempted sometime next year.
I would also like to hear a few more comments on them, I do remember reading someone’s favorable post not too long ago.
