Has anyone any ideas on how to stop the air pipe (which joins the bellows to the bag) from becoming disconnected from the bellows? I’ve wrapped the connection in hemp and teflon tape and that usually works for a few days but then it starts to come loose again.

Its ridiculous how much time I’ve spent frigging with such a small part of the set. The only thing that cured this for me was to put in a long enough hose that it wouldn’t pull off, even at my largest physical movement.

I believe this to be the best route to take.
kieran o’hare uses garden hose connecters that snap together. they work well.
Where does he get them? The only source I found were too expensive. I have been using 1/2" radiator hose; cheap but effective.

Try one of those automotive “O” rings. You know the type that you would use to connect a radiator hose on your car.
From time to time he’ll drop by. Another fella I know of right off the bat who does this too is John Maze, another FL piper living with the snap on/off hose joint. John? You out there? Truth be known, I have been thinking about shifting to this kind of set-up.
Do you guys really want a brass quick-lock garden connector gnawing away at your pipes?
… well, the connector doesn’t have to come in contact with the pipes… a little creative ‘garage-surgery’ can adjust that… or were you thinking about another point… an intelligent point…which is exactly the kind I am incapable of registering?

I think the simplest, quickest way to go is to get yourself a longer hose… in fact, get one ever longer. I mean, you can always take some off… but you can’t put it back.
The longer hose, as DJM stated, will go a long way toward keeping that stock well seated within your bellows…
now get out there, buy that hose, install it, and then get back to enjoying the fact you have a set of Uilleann Pipes, and you’re about to play them.

Try to get of the hemp and give a couple of turns on some staunch beeswax on it. It should do the trick buddy…send me some pics at my email or PM..

I have a wild idea, kinda out in space, but it just might work. You could contact your pipemaker and have him provide a longer hose that is proper for your pipes. I know it sounds silly, but it don’t see why it wouldn’t work. Maybe he knows something about these things that he makes for a living?

It’s been mentioned SEVERAL TIMES before that you can obtain 16mm diameter thick walled black radiator hose from most any automotive store… around here it runs $1 a foot.
… ummmm… ummmmm… I want to…ummmmmm… you… you… YOU… ummmm…sigh… I simply HATE shopping at Home Depot.
I had the same problem with my hose disconnecting from the bellows no matter how I tried to secure it. I finally ended up buying black washing machine hose at either Home Depot or Lowes. I think it was only $3 or $4 for enough hose to supply the one I use plus enough extra for another. It comes in various diameters too. You just might want to turn the imprinted pressure rating downward or toward you if anyone is watching you play and you’re not going to cover the hose with any material!
