I tried. Sorry, my fault! Still, it does no harm emphasising learning by ear.
As already noted, i read “dot” music with ease. And according to my Piano teacher, i have the ABILITY to play by ear… but im not… very strong/good or confident in it. I can play a little by ear, but mainly the only thing i am “good” at, is reading the music (or Dots) Hearing it in my head, playing Off the Dots, and “hearing” when i screw up…
I can’t listen to a song and just start playing it…yet.
Especially since i have noticed a large quantity of Irish music have ALOT going on in it, at least opposed to what i had been listening prior to my Irish Phase.
So while learning by ear is something i strive to do, Im not ready yet to rely solely on it, or even (especially while trying to learn) am able to transfer it to other instruments.
