banshee lament

Hi all

been trying to track down info on a tune on YouTube Banshee lament

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ttEMCESDoA

but cant find any info on it, been looking for months I though maybe it’s not the correct name for the tune uploaded
I have managed to workout the first few bars by ear but my old ears aren’t what they used to be
might ad I have found a few tunes with similar names to the tune on you tube including one with the same name for the oboe but not the same as the uilleann pipe tune on you tube
If any one can shed some light on the tune I would be grateful

many thanks

Parsed down to its basic melody what you have is ‘For Ireland I Won’t Say Her Name’ . Also known as 'Ar Éirinn Ni 'Neosfainn Ce Hi.

Bob

Isn’t that Finbar?
The slide show is, erm , special.
Schizophonia at its worst.

Thanks for the input i’ll have a look at 'Ar Éirinn Ni 'Neosfainn Ce Hi good place to start. I agree the slides are a bit spooky odd anyone with any ideas who the piper is just think it’s a great tune and nice playing
thanks again

Sounds like Finbar Furey to me, but I can’t find a recording reference.

just been playing it again i’m sure I can here a scratch sound like off an old Lp record so might well be from quite an old recording

just a thought

It is Finbar indeed. The recordiung comes from the 1981 LP “The Green Fields of France” where it was titled “Lament”.

Thanks to all, been a great help at least I now know the tune and who played it fun bit will be working out the notes don’t think sheet music available for this one

Much appreciated

Ap
