Has anyone ever tried to make a bamboo whistle? Is it possible? I have this dried piece of bamboo that keeps whispering in my ear…“I’m a whistle in hiding”.
Any assistance in helping to realize this bamboo’s dream would be appreciated!
I think the Indian cane whistles are usually about $7-8. My first wooden flute was one of the Indian $8 jobs (from http://www.mid-east.com/), and it was surprisingly good. You might order one and “dissect it” to see how it make one.
I killed the bamboo. It kept cracking and splitting-- perhaps too dry? Ah well, back to the bamboo forest for me…if I get brave enough to attempt this again.
Of course there’s always that length of copper piping that’s been waiting forever and a day to become a low d.
Thanks for the bit of advice Jim and Bob! (JimBob? Hmm…)
check out erik the flute maker . . . he sometimes uses a bamboo body with a susato head. i have one of his blues whistles made this way. quite different, lots of fun, not too expensive…
