If any of you are selling flutes or anything else on the internet you may have received emails like the following:
Dear X,
I would like to buy your flute for $X. I have a business associate who owes me sum of money much higher than cost of flute. He/She will send you payment if you will wire the balance to X.
Regards,
X
If you’ve received one of these you probably knew right away that they are scams.
But how does the scam work? Click on the FDIC Special Alert link to see one example. Counterfeit cheques seems to be the common scheme.
I’ve received two such emails. One was from a Nigerian gentleman. The other I never found out.
Like I said, it’s very obviously a scam. I doubt anybody here will fall for it. I just thought I should let you know about them if you haven’t received one already.
Cheers,
Aaron
