Are you buying yourself a gift this year?

Are you buying yourself a gift this year? What is it? Is there a story behind it?

I am on the fence, the Sirens, sing songs about a new computer and/or a new bicycle. The practical me, says that I don’t need either, that the bicycle I have and the computer I have are doing just fine. Of course, there is a list of less expensive options as well.

I very well might be buying myself a gift this year. Yes, indeedy. Yup.

But you’re not supposed to tell before you open the present.

What is your definition of “gift”? If it’s “something we were going to have to buy for the house anyway and since it’s Christmas, we’ll say it’s a present to you” then yes, I am going to get myself a couple of presents this year.

One year, right before Valentine’s Day, our washer and dryer both broke. We bought a new set. I asked my wife which one she wanted. She said she’d take the dryer because she hates to wash clothes.

What? Didn’t you get both? This raises too many questions. What am I missing here?

Are you talking to me?

Oh, now I see. I got the washer, my wife got the dryer. She didn’t want the washer to be her present because she doesn’t like to wash clothes, so that appliance became associated with me. Drying clothes has more positive aspects for her, that’s why she chose the dryer.

When you have to buy appliances for Valentine’s Day, you have to find some humor in the situation.

Well, I just bought myself a flight to Denver, so I can escort the hub as he goes out to visit his brother in Boulder for a week in January.
Sadly, I will only be staying 2 days myself. But still, it’s a bit of an indulgence, so I’m going to count it as a present.

I s’pose you are meaning for Christmas?

I don’t recall the the three Wise Yogis giving themselves gifts.
But then I wasn’t there. I believe that they bore gifts for the child.

But then, there is a child in all of us and so my comment shakes itself.

Yes, Mute, I was asking you about your . . . laundry products. (I think that is such an excellent term for them. Thanks for sharing it, Dale!)

Because we will not be seeing any of my family this Christmas, we have been sent money to buy our own gifts! I have bought Ro’s for him, and have had a lot of fun choosing presents for me too! I can’t tell you what they are, of course, for they are all wrapped up and cannot be opened until Christmas Day. Does that count?

Our washer died in November so we had to get a new one, and we FINALLY replaced the ancient sofa. Those are our big household “presents.”

Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or . . . Festivus.

Sure they did . . . they gave themselves a nice trip to Bethlehem.

Yup, that counts!

Tom got a car. In October - after his was t-boned. I’m going to stick a bow on it Christmas morning.

I bought us a new (2008) family car, a Buick LaCrosse. Since we don’t drive that many miles a year, our interest was more on safety and comfort rather than fuel economy. I like the 6-way power seats with power lumbar adjustment. The only problem so far is that the car is too long to go into the garage. This morning the car was covered with snow, but my wife was able to start the car from inside the house and let the heated seats get warm before she went outside to go to work. She likes that.

im going on an all expenses payed (by me) daytrip/stopover to Dublin on my way back to Belfast.
going to attend a session, meet up with some friends, visit a few museums, buy 12 months supply for Fedogs (they dont sell them in leeds!) and generally have a grand day out.

(They don’t sell Feadogs in Leeds? Hawkins Bazaar has them! Don’t they have a Hawkins Bazaar in Leeds? and… and… you’re online anyway… :poke: )

Ribbon Shirt Patterns. I bought two Ribbon Shirt patterns from Matoska. I’m not going to get a chance to make the things till after New Year, so I passed them to my wife to parcel up for me. It will look like they are from her but they are really from me.
We have, on occasions in the past, bought something for each other that we knew we liked more than they did. Fifth Column presents? Very naughty anyway, and I try very hard not to do it.

I bought myself this shirt. I would have
given it to my cousin if I had drawn his
name in our gift draw but since I didn’t,
it’s mine.

It is called “It Came Out of Nowhere!”
I couldn’t pass it up, you never know
how long things are going to stick
around at woot.

Don’t ask me how it happened, but in the last four days, amidst all the other xmas stuff, I got something that looks exactly like this;

A little red X! Cool.

hmm. okay, well, I followed the directions for img posting… so…an x it is. Let it be a mystery.
