Here’s what the descripiton of the first episode says on the PBS site. It looks like around here, anyway, it’s going to be on from 7pm until??? since they are showing several back to back episodes…

My kin got run out of there. Gold does funny things to people.

That’s why the Cherokees settled in the Ozark region when they arrived in Indian Territory, because it was more like the Appalachian homeland, geographically, than was the Cherokee Strip.

Huh? No eye-gougin’ round here. You might get cut though. The only time I’ve ever heard of shivarees is when I read the word in a book.
‘course, I’m just speakin’ of my neck of the woods.




Most adult men over 40 in this area are or I should say were coal miners…mining is not what it once was around here. Now it’s mostly non-union scab mines and pay is way too low for experienced miners to even consider the job anymore.
