I ran across this in my wanderings:

I was just wondering if anyone had ever made one or heard one played. I couldn’t load the sound file on the web page due to my &^%$ computer.

Then there’s this:

Dennis, what do you have to say for yourself???

Oh, that’s beautiful. Especially the bangy twangy noise it makes when you whack it on something.
Yeah,it sounds like something from a Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry Dub record.
I bought one for a laugh, years ago-used to sound good stuffed down the bell of my Alto Sax!
Nothing like what’s described in the article, but I used to make monotonal willow whistles as a kid.
Willow flutes you can find a lot in the scandinavian and east european but also asian music, it is basically an overtone flute, no holes played by overblowing. Really good examples to my ears you can find with Hedningarna. If you hunt for some of this music, go here http://www.noside.com/ , it is an US side but what they have is first class and well worth to check out. We have all the Nordic Root samplers and they are brilliant to get an idea of what to look for complete Band CDs. Warning though: It can be totally different to what you may be used to when listening to the “usual folk stuff” ![]()

P.S. a link I posted before which has simple overtone flutes and all kind of other crazy mouth blown stuff
Edited to take out Mynta for overtone flute playing. I mixed them up with another band although Mynta is also interesting. Nandus Dance comes to mind with incredible flute and table playing a mixtue of scandinavian and indian music.
