They really did. She had ONE bad night (and it wasn’t even as bad as some of the others)…that shouldn’t have been enough to send her packing.
Anoop was too wooden, but whenever I watch the show, I spend at least some time during each performance with my eyes closed, imagining I am hearing them on the radio or something. He has a beautiful voice and he has soul, if you know what I mean. I think that he is too much of a good boy, so to speak, to practice a certain kind of vanity. Ultimately, it will keep him from winning. But how can you not root for a South Asian kid from a Southern state, when you consider what a reflection of the new America that he represents?
MacIntyre has run out of options to be equal with the best. He also is kind of listless, despite many of us who might want him to succeed through his disability. I love his piano playing and I really liked the intro to the song. The problem was that the song didn’t have enough originality after he went into the normal tempo.
Kris gives off a relaxed Hawaiian kind of vibe, which works really well. He’s not my favorite, but he definitely has a reserve to work with. He won’t win.
As I said earlier, I thought Lil Rounds was unfairly evaluated. I didn’t really think much of her before last night, I thought she was a Fantasia clone. But she was very powerful, womanly and soulful last night. I guess she lacks novelty, given who has passed before her.
I thought Giraud was better than all of them a few weeks ago. The final girl is good, but not good enough. I thought they were overly generous to her, after dismissing Rounds.
But Lambert won it. The kid is so very talented, almost too talented because he gives off a vibe of ultra-sophistication regarding music to me. It works against him because fans of the show want somebody who is “deserving” and a bit humble, not already there and self-assured (despite what the judges claim to demand). I think that for somebody that talented, being evaluated on a musical basis by Simon Cowell is nearly insulting. Cowell is an idiot about music, really, but he does represent the non-expert pop mentality and blunt evaluation of the moment and impact of the performance, and that’s important.
And I am already done with dioGuardi. She is barely relevant, yet I assume she will take over Abdul’s spot by next year. That’s too bad. From drug-addled to air-headed keeps the patriarchy in place, and that’s a shame. I would love to see a woman with as many musical notches in her belt as Randy up there, and leave the show-biz stuff to Cowell.
Lambert, or maybe Rounds, wins. Giraud has an outside chance.

By now I agree. I was hoping, given her initial attitude and credentials that she’d carry a little more weight.
Michael Sarver’s gone. I’m not sorry. That is, though, one more week to hear what kind of strangeness Meghan will come up with. Sometimes it’s interesting.
Adam did an amazing performance. It wasn’t his best technically, but in terms of connecting with the audience it was tops. Adam is one that people wait to see what he will come out with. He seems much more musically mature than any of the others. That doesn’t mean he will win, but it does mean he will probably have the best career from this year’s crop.
Danny has potential, but I don’t care for the tone of his voice. Danny needs to step his game up, if he wants to be a star. Lil Rounds has the voice, but hasn’t delivered. Lil fell on her face on Motown night. If she can’t do blow the roof off the arena with that theme, what can she sing well?
Scott is this year’s lesser talent that is getting votes for other reasons besides his singing. If Scott gets to stay while one of the bigger talents get voted off, that will be the night the judges use their save.
Matt Giraud got bottom three, mostly due to being in the first slot. However, if Matt had real star power, no way he would be bottom three given this field, and a weak performance by Meghan.
I like Anoop. I doubt he will win, because crooners usually don’t do well in this competition. Anoop is about the best of that kind that has been on the show. There was that red-headed tall kid from many seasons ago. Anoop is much better and adaptable.
Alison, being so young at 16, might be able to grow into being a star, like Jordan Sparks is starting to do. I think the production company would want either her, or Adam to win.
The mentors have been poor so far. Smokey Robinson and Randy Travis both seemed afraid to say anything negative.
Please, please, no more Meghan. Gawd…
It turns out she’s being supported by VoteForTheWorst.com and she may stick around like Sanjaya (sp?) did.
Adam should hope to be kicked off soon so he can start his singing career. He’s money.
Really liking Chris more and more.
Still like Danny but he won’t win.
Matt blew it last night but I still like him.
Lil has a great voice but can’t manage a great performance.
Scott should not make the top 5.
Allison did not have a good performance but I still think she’s top three material.
The rest are also rans.
Theme for this week was “train wrecks,” oh my gosh, some mediocre singing going on. The short work week probably was a factor (show aired last Wed instead of Tue).
I liked Danny and Adam, but they didn’t do great. A few others did passable though safe performances such as Lil, Scott, Kris. Some of the others were painful to watch and listen to.
Megan definitely qualifies for Vote for the Worst.
Megan should be the one to go, Matt, Anoop, Scott could also be in danger. If Matt gets voted off, I think the judges will use their save. If Anoop, maybe 50/50 they save him. If Scott or Megan, no chance, they want those two out.
Megan is going home - sigh of relief. That last song was pretty hard to watch.
I don’t see the judges using their save unless it’s near the end and they have a Chris Daughtry/Jennifer Hudson type result.
why did they use the judge’s save on Matt? It seems fishy to me.

uuhhh…maybe because the whole thing is fixed anyway?

Had to be used this week or next anyway. They can only save once, and can’t use it once they’re down to the final 5. So the judges save was only valid from 10 down to 6. The remainder is supposedly determined by viewer voting.
Right. I think they sort of had to deploy it, for dramatic effect, and they were going to run out of time.
So this timing works, and knocks off 2 pieces of deadwood next week.
It wasn’t that there was anything extraordinary about Matt that he would be the chosen one.

I don’t know. It seems risky going into a Disco theme week, with two eliminations. Now, they might lose someone who has an outside chance to win such as Alison. I think the two ladies twisted Cowell’s arm to use the save.
Adam has become a prohibitive favorite amongst UK odds makers. The rest of the season may be a coronation march.

I honestly didn’t think he should have been the one to get the boot. Lil, unfortunately, has been consistently bad for a few weeks now. I don’t know if she really knows how to be the artist the judges are telling her she needs to be.
I loved Kris…but then I adore that song. It’s one of my favorites. He did a good job of it, but more importantly, he really connected with the audience. At this point, I can’t see Lil going much further (although she could Donna Summer the whole thing next week and just be awesome), and maybe Anoop (although he’s really come into his own the last couple of weeks, hasn’t he?).
Right now, I think Alison and Adam are the ones to beat.
They should have used the save in week 2 or was it week 3? Alexis was better than half of the contestants still on the show. I know they didn’t want to use it early, but c’mon, Matt will be voted off again next week. Alexis belongs on the tour.
Can you tell that I’m still bitter?

I agree. I don’t see/hear what the deal is with Matt. To me, he lacks vocal control. I hear him screwing up all those “runs” etc. that he wants to do. I’ve never thought he should still be there. Lil is boring.
This thing is Adam’s to lose. Allison could maybe pull the upset if she catches a break with song choice one week.
I like Danny a lot and I really like Kris. Both are consistent and connect with the audience.
This is nothing like Hell’sKitchen where I don’t think any one of them are good enough to run a casino restaurant.
I am mystified that anyone thinks Allison deserves a place in that group. She grunts, she’s off key. Yes, she’s talented and precocious, but if this is a singing and popularity contest, all she has is her age and orange hair. She remind me of that hard rocker girl from Ohio last year with the white streak in her hair, but frankly, the other girl was a better singer. She has a kind of soul thing going, without being technically black but the continued disrespect and discouragement of Lil Rounds kind of makes me think that they don’t want to promote a female soul singer. I think Lil was underrated and has stopped believing in her own ability. It’s sad.
The other Weekender, an Idol hater, was in the room just long enough to hear Allison. Her comment: “that girl can’t sing. I don’t believe she’s on there.”
Adam was back to the mythic Manhattan vogue-y gay bar thing will all the screamin.’ I am conflicted about him. I know he is the most polished and interesting person up there but the histrionics of always going upwards is annoying. I wish he would sing ONE song in a deeper register, all the way thru because I know he has a good voice in that range as well. He probably should win.
Anoop is kind of a sleeper. He is a perfectionist and rarely misses a note, a pitch or a phrase. He’s commendable but remains wooden onstage . He needs a lost weekend or something to loosen up. But people don’t mature on a schedule.

I’m mystified that you are mystified
. I see Allison as top two or three in this year’s group, and at this point is a lock to get a recording contract. Maybe she can’t produce beautiful pure tones, but that is true of half of those with hit rock-n-roll records (Jagger, Springsteen, et al). What Allison has is an identifiable sound that is a bit different from what is currently out there, and that people enjoy listening to. That’s a recipe for being a star in the music industry, possibly a big star.
As for Lil, she can definitely sing, definitely hit the high notes. What Lil lacks is an identifiable style, and she has trouble connecting with the audience. I believe Lil would have done much better in an earlier season of Idol (pre Taylor Hicks), where originality wasn’t desired, or cultivated, or apparent. In Season 8, the bar is higher, because there are 30+ Idol alumni seeking oxygen on the charts.
That said, I almost believe that part of the judges out right antagonism towards Lil may have to do with back stage exchanges that have nothing to do with the singing. Even Paula has been attacking Lil, calling the performances karaoke. I can’t remember Paula ever saying such nasty things about a performer, and this year it happens repeatedly.
Anyway, the judges only have so much sway. If Lil had fans that liked her singing, she wouldn’t be bottom three week after week, no matter what the judges say. Sometimes bitter judges’ comments help get votes. Lil was the top vote getter in her preliminary group, and given the coveted last spot this week, so the conspiracy idea seems far fetched. It doesn’t make sense to me, because Lil would be a big change from the recent Idol winners and runner ups. By being different Lil would have room to run on the charts, when given the best independently written songs, as Idol winners tend to get. I have to believe that a much bigger factor is that Lil’s singing is growing tiresome.
Anoop has virtually no chance to win, as nice as he seems, as nice as his singing is. He is doing well as a crooner. However, being in bottom three week after week, means the public, the voters, the downloaders and album buyers are not behind him. With Disco week next, and Anoop getting bad reviews whenever he goes up tempo, this is likely his last week on the show.
