Well, he does not fit the American Folk Music mold but I’d say the heck with categorizing the music. John Martyn was just one of the most unique writers/players out there and certainly one of the “folk” that shold be required listening. May he forever roam in peace. Then of course there is the matter of the Weissenborn accompaniment, another uncommon weapon in the folkie’s arsenal. Yes, it’s folk music to me. If it’s not, I don’t care. It’s just good music.
