Alaska whistle shop

I just returned from a seventy day journey to the Artic Ocean by tugboat. It was a long cold journey. Through rough seas and ice I still managed to do a little whistling almost everyday(even though my Susato was the only one I could here over the engines). We had to stop for a little over a week in Anchorage, Alaska. Of course, the first thing I did was look up the local music stores to see if anyone carried any whistles. I was delighted to find a shop called the Oldtime Music Co. They had a pretty good variety of whistles. I picked up a Susato low D and a Shaw C. The owner Marge even delivered them to the boat for me. Very nice lady. If anyone happens to be in the area they should check out her shop.

I live in Fairbanks, Alaska. We are about 380 miles north of Anchorage, so we are neighbors.

Haven’t heard about that shop. What else do they carry? Next time I get to Anchor Town I’ll have to look them up!

In the way of whistles she carried Kerry Pro, Susato, Shaw and a few of the other cheaper varieties.

She also had a nice bamboo whistle in C. It had sort of a novelty item look to it, but I was surprised how well it played. Even well into the second octave. I would have purchased one of those to, except I thought it might be a bit delicate for my sea bags.

She also carries Accordions, concertinas, harps, dulcimers and mandolins.

They have an e-mail at oldtime@GCI.net

Maybe you should see if they will ship it to you.

Is Seaside Oregon to the north or south of Newport? I lived in Corvallis for about 6 months and we loved to go to Newport. Can’t wait to go back there.

Newport is a few hours drive south of Seaside. I live about 15 miles south of the Columbia river. I love it here. I travel all over due to my work and there’s no other place I’d rather live. My only complaint is that I’ve yet to find a good whistle shop in Oregon. Thank goodness for online shopping(and the occasional visit to Lark in the Morning in Seattle).

Newport’s a nice little town. I may go down there next weekend for a Renaissance Faire.

Just a side note. Clarke whistles hate ocean voyages. I had to take a scouring pad to mine everyday to keep the rust under control. I guess I should purchase some painted ones next time.
