air whistle?

I was just trying the technique, and you’re right, it does take a lot of air.
You were probably already doing it right… I was afraid maybe you
were trying to blow over the regular blow hole, like playing in a jug band…
This was my first impression when I read of it.

Now this is what yer call an Air Whistle

I thought it sounded like someone tapping the keys on a flute while blowing breath into it. I love how it blends from the whisper into a full tone as the tune progresses.
Thanks for the information.

Hi,

I placed the whistle under my lower lip and blew down to create that sound. It was a process I found out while playing the whistle while I watched tv with the family - it didn’t annoy them as much!

Good luck,

Wow. Talk about the power of the internet. I don’t come around here too
much, but I logged on just to see if I could find out about this “whisper
sound”, as I was calling it, and here is the info I need!

I had heard it on the radio here in NYC some time back, but didn’t know
who was the artist. Well, off to tower records for another one
of Joanie’s CD’s- there goes today’s profits!

After hearing the whisper sound, I experimented as I tried to figure
it out and came up with something different: try playing the whistle like
a flute, blowing across the “window” at various angles. Neat sound!

My training was first as a flutist, and there are all sorts of “extended
techniques” for unusual sounds.

check out these webpages for some real different stuff:

Anyone know of any similar stuff for whistles?

Thanks,
