“My opinion is that the Abell A/Bf set has aged gracefully. They still need to be warmed up but when they are they are beautiful with just the right amount of sweetness. They didn’t start that way but then I wasn’t as sweet when I started out as I am now either.
”
Well, I’m still not very sweet, so I guess they ended up in the right hands, ![]()
“I may send them to you some time to try out for a month or so to see if they have improved since you tried them or if it’s just my imagination.”
That would be interesting indeed, as I’m very curious myself. Interestingly enough, my Abell D started to sound kinda lame after I didn’t play it for a while. At one point I was thinking “My taste either changed, or this whistle sort of sucks now”
However I oiled it, and made a point to play it consistently, and after a few days, BAM! It was back to being as killer as ever. To be honest, that was the moment I thought to myself that I really made a mistake in letting that A/Bb set go. But hey, that’s what I get for being young and impulsive
I’m so much wiser now, lol!
“BTW, I’d prefer a Coomb mandola and may even be willing to throw in a few dollars to sweeten the deal when you bring it back from Australia. Afterall you will be hand carrying it all that way back.”
Yeah, but the frets will be all worn down and grooved from me playing it, so you’d better save your money for a fret job ![]()
