I’d like to get the benefit of the groups’ knowledge on a couple of things… first, I got a Dixon Low D, which I really like, but it seems to my tarnished ear that the 2nd octave sounds kinda “thin”, especially the d and e… by thin, I mean, not nearly as flute-like rich as the low octave. Is this:
A) typical of low whistles in general
B) characteristic of the Dixon vs, say, an
Overton for example
C) A defect in my playing / hearing
D) More than one of the above
E) None of the above
My other question relates to the flute..how is the cool common flute effect that sounds like someone playing and rolling trrrrrr’s at the same time achieved ? I hope I’m making it clear what I mean… I hear it all the time,i.e. in a lot of Flook’s stuff, Ian Anderson, etc…
