A bit OT. Whistle player trying the flute.

Just got a Tipple flute in. I’d read enough about them over at the flute forum that it looked like a good starting place. If anyone is curious about the flute, this has got a lot of bang for the buck. I can’t compare it to another flute, 'cause I ain’t never tried one (I have messed around on a fife and piccolo) , but I can manage to get a few tunes out of it already. Oh, and it looks fantasic for pvc with contact paper on it. I mean to the point of amazing.
That wasn’t some sort of pitch or anything. I’m just excited.
I already practiced whistle for over an hour today, so I don’t feel guilty.

The flute is loved by me.

Now my arms hurt…and my thumb…

You’re not playing correctly, perhaps.

It may be because you’re not used to it, though. Posture is more important with the flute than the whistle.

Vomitbunny! I got my first flute today too! A wooden fella.
I’m with you, my thumb is not comfortable at all.
I’m playing Trallee Gaol and Eagle’s Whistle at the moment, but am having some trouble with the lowest three notes.

Isn’t playing whistle after practicing the flute a weird experience? I can’t get over how strange my MEG feels.

I got the Tipple, and I just realized I should have gotten the three piece insted of two. It’s too big to sneak to work! I’ll manage though…heheheh

I just picked up the whistle for minute. It DOES feel a little wierd.

Thanks VB. I was torn between the two-piece and the three-piece. Now I know better. Did you get the white or gray PVC?

I just got a Tipple, too… White PVC covered w/ rosewood contact paper… it looks really cool, says me.
I have some trouble covering the holes sometimes, so the E and D don’t often come out right
(the only other flute I’ve played is one of those metal student flutes… bigger difference than I expected).
But I’m gonna keep trying. I love the sound with the Tipple-Fajero wedge.

I got it covered with contact paper too. It looks supprizingly good.

hehe. Dunno how it is with Irish flute, but my Boehm metal flute thingy is so strange to go back to after a whistle practice. I usually devote weekdays to whistle and weekends to flute. My flute feels so heavy in comparison to my whistles. Never noticed how heavy it was until I started whistling.
