If anyone is interested, there is a nice looking 1/2 set by Charles Roberts on ebay. Also comes with extra Rogge chanter. Looks pretty new and presently is bidding pretty low.
Yeah, 5 drones–looks like tenor and baritone “A” drones, with Northumbrian-style shut-offs. The Rogge chanter looks to be acetyl (polypenco, plastic whatever you want to call it). Interesting stuff.
Here’s Google’s attempt at translating the description:
“Set helped Uilleann Pipes (Irish Dudelsack) of Charles Robert with additional Chanter of Andreas Rogge, the set had two additional zuaschaltbare Drones (thus altogether 5 Drones). The set is approx. 2 years old, in a very good condition and absolutely playable; only two Drones and the Chanter of C Roberts braeuchten new Reeds. In addition there is a very sturdy suitable suit-case.”
Pretty good job, Google! but don’t you know what Dudelsack means?
“Schaltbare” means adjustable. Perhaps zwei schaltbare drones - two adjustable drones.
For an extra “A” drone, this system makes a lot more sense to me than having the two drone switches I saw recently on the Britton 1/2 set (which sold for $3800) on ebay. Switches get in the way. I like the way Keenan’s flat drone switch is bent over the edge of the mainstock then uprighted again further up the stock…and out of the way of the wrist for playing the first set of reg keys.
