Sounds like flutter tonguing to me.
Yep, that’s it. Doing it from time to time as well, and it sounds the same.
weird…but is this a right-handed player using a left-handed flute??
seems to be. look at the short-f key and the rubber-banded G#key.
I noticed the same anomaly.
He does seem to use a lot of tonguing (glottaling?) as well as the flutter?
Oh well, it seems that all the combinations are possible…!

yes, i thought maybe he’s combining a couple of things, throating, tonguing, etc. but i’ll give this flutter tonguing thing a try…

To be honest, I’ve find flutter tongue on flute in whatever genre (trad, classical, jazz) to be “schtick”–artificial, grating, contrived. I particularly dislike it in trad, e.g. Niall Keegan. Only one player I’ve heard does it well because it’s so subtle and truly adds to the music–Brian Finnegan on whistle, e.g. he uses it a little on the last/3rd tune of his “Belfast” set of reels on his latest CD.
I really like Frankie Kennedy style and his use of tongue on flute…
i thought what he did here was pretty good; i liked it. 
but that’s the only recording of him i’ve heard… i imagine if he used it alot on every tune it would start to get on my nerves
