Your dream place to play the pipes

Ever since seeing the film “titanic” I have this dream of playing the pipes sitting on the rail at the front of the ship as in the scene with Leo and Kate, where he is holding her as she hold out her arms as if she is flying. But seeing the ship is at the bottom of the sea that,s not going to happen ,so I,d settle for playing in Croke park at the half-time of the All Ireland final ( Dublin trash Kerry of course !!)

RORY

Hi Rory

I’d rather play with Kate

David

While you are at Croke Park I’ll be playing in your living room drinking your liquor while watching the All Ireland final on telly

Biting…tongue…

I’d like to play on some of the golf courses around here- there’s some really beautifully landscaped ones. Now in the late fall (assuming the reeds are up to it) I’d love to play on the edge of a lake at dusk, and just let the sound drift…

Playing in a bathroom is also an accoustic expierence… make sure its empty first.

I’d like to play in a cathedral. But I don’t think they would let me (with pipes). Perhaps with the flute. Would be cool, too.

Ian Paisley’s graveside. As they lower him down I’d play a set of reels: The Congress and the Musical Priest

At Willy week

Somewhere outside for a big Easter sunrise service–assuming my ability would increase a bit and the reeds would handle it. Last year I played a recording at the regular service of “Once to Every Man and Nation” that goes right into the “Merry Quaker” (Which I also know is called many other things including "Merrily Kiss the Quaker’s Wife  Anyway, it was really cool that as the jig started we brought in the light and brought the house lights up in the sanctuary. It was cool.

I don’t think I would want to play on a ship. They could just throw me overboard!

I’ve taken my pipes up to Algonquin Park in the fall. That’s pretty much as good as it gets for me.

Peader O’Laughlin’s kitchen in 1961. Only my name is really Tommy Reck.

Right now, I’d settle for playing anywhere. I’m still waiting for my set

I mean, sometimes I read the newspaper in the bathroom, but. . . . .

Would you wait until you were done with your business before you started piping, or would you just have at it from the get go… all noises being equal?

I like to play in the basement of a huge concrete church out in the middle of nowhere, but in near proximity to the corpse of a 2nd century teenaged martyr. Sound bizarre?

For you, Paz’: no. :astonished:

I was working on “Alexander’s Hornpipe” the other day, and I think I sound better ‘do’n mah business’ than playing the tune…
:astonished:

I must admit that many pipers in photographs of them playing look like they are sitting on a toilet doing their business. Please forgive me for adding this comment.

For me, my favourite place to play the pipes is in Cornwall/Somerset. This is because of the many happy times I have shared with fellow SWAUP pipers in those fine counties. Just having a tune and a drink with my mates is the best craic of all

You mean like this guy?

You can burn my house down if you want ,as long as Dublin beat Kerry.

I,d also like to play in a large cathedral or church, I was down in cork recently and we went into a local church which was quite big, myself and the kids were the only people in there and when they were talking you could actually feel the vibrations in the air.

anywhere where there’s massive, cavernous natural reverb

No chance, Rory. Kerry will tear you to apart…And then Tomás Ó Sé will run off with Kate Winslet.

Ciarraí Abú!
