Yay! New Dixon high D!

I finally got my new whistle from thewhistleshop.com, today. It’s a tunable, aluminum, Dixon high D.

Sounds great! You can tell it’s a Dixon just by hearing it, sounds similar to my Dixon low D. The sound is brighter than, say, my Clarke D. Also like it’s larger, lower, brother, this one has pretty low air requirments. I don’t have to worry about running out of air, so much as I have to remember to take a breath from time to time. The bottom octive is good and clear, as is the second. What really suprised me was that with a bit of control, even the third octive is strong and clear.

I do have a question, though. Is there anything I should do to better care for this whistle? Do I need to oil or grease the tuning slide at all? Should I store it in one piece, or two?

This is just me. I don’t like storing the two together. On mine, it seemed sometimes like it got really stuck, as if the tuning slide might break off. So, I store them apart nowadays. And personally, I apply a little cork grease on the slide. Sometimes though, I’ll just use a copper/brass cleaner and it restores it to a brilliant shine, and nice [not so slippery] slippery brass feeling.
