I was playing around with bamboo today (my mom came to babysit and I had to make a piece for my jewelry business, so I was in the studio already and I stole some time) and I needed to find the location of the inside of the node, because I can never remember which outer ring the wall is close to (does that make sense?). Well, I thought I had it right (I had stuck a dowel in to measure it), but it turned out there was a little caviry in there making the wall go further than I’d thought. I’d already made the embouchure hole when I realized this. So anyway, I have this epoxy resin that I got about two years ago and had never used. I dug into the box and figured out how to measure and use it and I filled in the spot to bring it to one inner diameter from the center of the embouchure hole. It’s taped to a tile wall in the bathroom and I have to wait a day for it to set, but I am excited about having finally used it.
Nah, I got out plenty before I had a kid. And I get out plenty when we’re away at craft shows. My husband and I went out for dessert - without the baby - last night. I value at-home pajama time. I suppose it strikes you as strange that a woman is interested in things like epoxy and its effect on bamboo, but that’s just a combination of possible sexism and definite ignorance on your part. Creativity is a wonderful thing. If you think going out is the be all and end all of life, you miss the point. So go out and enjoy it, meet tons of people, drink, do whatever “out” means to you, and I will stay home and play with my baby and my toys and love my life. Jessie, I know the ‘get out more’ comment was in jest but I too dislike such judgemental phrases, especially ‘get a life’.
I do have some advice though… epoxy, unlike school paste, should NOT be ingested!
On a more serious note I recall once trying to glue something with epoxy but got impatient with it so wiped off the as yet uncured epoxy as best I could and used superglue on the same area. The mix of adhesives resulted in fumes that felt like an icepick between my eyes.
Please be VERY careful about the fumes from expoxies and Superglues - they can cause some really serious long term health problems, even with limited exposures. It’s important to note the the fumes can travel surprising far as well.
I second that, I spent ten years or more making models for effects and such and I grew to hate them- especially the catalysts; the kicker for superglue is ‘super’ evil stuff.
No kidding, I won’t even use super glue in the shop now without cartridge filtration mask - it’s particularly evil when it “Blooms” (looks like fog or smoke)
