WWW! Wooden Wallet Whistle-->Updated pics and design

Dunno, Senhor. It slowly turned more brownish as it oxidized. Now it looks more like rosewood (10 years later). Latin percussionists would kill for this set, though. The sound is awesome, with a “chink” that cuts through time and space. I like to play along with all my BossaNova records.

Quit bragging, Kar.

Seriously, though, I like this thing, including the fact that the lower two sections apparently screw together so you wouldn’t have to worry about a second slide joint making it even harder for tin-eared types like me to tune.

You’d need some sort of case. I’m thinking that if the exterior diameter isn’t too great, a pocket cigar would work well.

When can we expect commercial availability?

Sure! I’ve seen people could smuggle a piano accordion in there! Thinking of it, some probably do!

Chuck,

Tuesdays and wednesdays is when I make most of my prototypes and work on designs…so..it should be available by the end of the week. I just finalized my C whistle as well…the body is interchangeable with the D body…using the same fipple…

..there’s an added bonus for “macho” guys who feel a little silly tooting on a tiny wee little whistle  …it rather feels like I’m assembling an assault machine gun :astonished: when I’m snapping and clicking the parts into place!!

The o.d. diameter is .7495 inches or 18.97mm…when disassembled the longest piece is 4.01 inches…hmm…cigar case eh?

God Bless,
David

Well, much though I would like to give you a “Me, Too!” about its being really cool (and it is), I’m sorry, but you’re just using waaay to much brass tubing in those 3 / 4 piecers. I went to the Ace Hardware today and tried to buy some tubing, and their K&S rack was completely empty. I asked the manager about it, and he told me that K&S is diverting the majority of their stock to some town in … Minnesota! :astonished: Hmmmmm…

suspiciously yours,

Dale, lock this thread now! D cups, screwing together, outside diameter…

PhilO :boggle:

Superb. That purpleheart / lilac thing is awesome.

And here’s one wood whistle you can be sure people will never ask if it’s a clarinet.

On the other hand, if I brought that to our session, I know they’d nick it immediately as the Christian Dior Lipstick… That’s borderline to keep my local prestige

Lilac is actually a small tree if left to grow naturally. I have a lilac in my garden with a trunk section well over 100mm. (No BrewerPaul, you can’t have it! I am saving it till I have perfected my own technique!! )

Jetboy

Have you taken a good look at that lilac in your garden? I have two lilac arbors on my property and any time a trunk exceeds an inch and a half in diameter (35 mm or so) it’s almost guaranteed to be rotted and brittle.

Most of the lilac I got in that box was a of a relatively small diamter, and the vast majority had imperfections and knots and is useless in an instrument. I should be able to get a few more fipples, MAYBE one more d body..and one “wallet whistle”…the rest is all handle material… :frowning:
..ahh well..p.s. the lilac/purpleheart whistle sold VERY quickly and had a lot of interest..which really surprised my wife…she thinks a wooden whistle shoule be black. period. with silver ferrules.stop.
…it’s ironic that her favorite whistle is made from Minnesota apple!
