All these double and droned whistles recurrent threads started to tickle me more and more (1).
So I taped one of my Walton’s to D drone and played both simultaneously. Interesting… but it’s only a regular drone. What about a regulated drone?
So I snatched my son’s slide whistle, pretending it needs cleaning!
And voilà : here was the X-01 prototype of

• It takes less air, gives a very warm sound, and is quieter than a purely matched second pipe.
• It sticks to its bell sound, and doesn’t overblow to higher D (under normal circumastances!)
• The best bit is it can be tuned to D, A and G…
Pity the tube is just a bit too short, so it can’t drone to low D.
• For the weird bit, if the tune ends on G, use your right hand on the plug rod and a slide-trombone final 
If I ever design a double whistle, its drone (drones?) will be a closed reguilleator…
