I just need the F whistle body, but will consider a complete whistle (with head) if it’s reasonably priced.
Thanks!

Bump, still looking. I’m hoping to complete my Susato A-G-F set.
Bump!
Because the M-bore F is no longer available from Susato, I’d pay the current retail cost of the L-bore body (around $50) in order to complete my set. ![]()
Hi MT,
I was in the same quest with you. But I have done my quest earlier. Ihave contacted MK and they said the M bore was discontinued as it have a quiet low octave.
I bought mine on the store in Germany via online last September 2012.Their storename is Folk Friends.
I hope they still have a stock for u.
For me I love the high notes of M Bore compare to LBore.
This one is like the Bb of the M-Series or the D of V-series.
Leaning towards a quiet whistle. A large breath can cause a squeek in most cases. But after training on that, I started to appreciate it.
The M-Bore range is 2 and a half octave with the 3rd octave A-C a slight push.
The LBore have a hard 2nd Octave. It feels like F belongs 2 somewhere in between M and L.
My quest now is the F#.
The LBore F# IMHO is unbalance on high octave.
The LBore D -Eb are d sweet spots which the execution on end octave is much easier.
I pray that you find one. It is quiet, lovely and haunting.
Regards,
Angel
Thank you so much for that suggestion, Angel! I will contact Folk Friends and ask them.
Yes, that’s right. I told Mike Kelischek I thought canceling the M-bore F was a mistake. But I understand the financial reasons for not wanting to support two F whistles.
Thank you again! ![]()
Of course, I’m still interested in a used one from a fellow Chiffer, per my OP.
I did the same thing… even contacted persons from the sold and old.
I wish you good luck with your quest.
Regards,
Angel
Maybe make your own, MT? I don’t know what diameter the M head’s bore is, but I made a nice set of bodies for my S head with 1/2" CPVC, with a couple winds of Scotch tape or similar to get a tight fit. It might be easiest and most economical to figure out what size pipe will fit the M head. Plus, that way you could continue on and make the F#/Gb and Ab bodies, for no extra charge.
That’s a decent suggestion, stanton, thanks! I’m not much interested in building whistles. But you’re right, there’s nothing magical about a tube with holes. The OD of the Susato M tube is around 20 mm or 0.78 inches, so a 3/4 inch OD PVC tube might work. And that doesn’t preclude my search for a Susato tube to complete the set.
But you’re right, there’s nothing magical about a tube with holes.
… but there is … especially in the right hands!
3/4 PVC is 0.840" OD and so would have to be turned to fit if I’m understanding that head needs a 0.78" od tube.
3/4 CPVC is slightly bigger.
Do you know what the id the M-bore is?
Exactly right! And I’d rather put ongoing effort into my magical hands. Which are sometimes not so magical. ![]()
Ah, right, PVC is sized by ID. I have a bunch of marked 1/2 inch PVC that is exactly 0.84" OD (I guess you meant 1/2 PVC). So maybe 3/8 PVC would do, if there is such a thing? I’d have to check. I’d tape a smaller tube, but I can’t (or won’t) start machining PVC. ![]()
Sure. It’s 0.60" ID at the head end, and 0.55" at the foot.
Hmm. Schedule 40 1/2" PVC has an ID of .622" and an OD of .840". So, you’d need to turn or sand off an excess .03" of wall thickness at the end that fits into the head to fit it into the .78" M head. .03" doesn’t sound like a lot to me. It could probably be done by hand with a file and piece of sandpaper, in a pinch.
But, there are certainly other sizes of pipe than schedule 40 and CTS. I’d take the M head to Lowe’s and see what it fits on!
Given my aptitude for things mechanical, give me sandpaper and I’ll probably manage to burn the house down or cut off my finger anyway. ![]()
But you’re right, I can easily check around to see what fits.
