WTB: Abell D blackwood

Hi,

I’m looking into getting an Abell D in blackwood. I’d prefer a newer one with the comfortably shaped beak, but will consider older 45° shaped mouthpieces too. Let me know.

Cheers, Gabriel

Gabriel,
Everyone knows Chris makes an incredible whistle. You would probably be better off contacting him directly and placing an order with him for exactly what you are looking for. There may be a wait, but you will know it’s coming and you will get the mouthpiece style that you want. You could also ask to be put on a list for orders that might fall through so that you could buy a whistle that someone did not claim.

Whistles come up for sale on the secondary market all the time but those made by Chris are snapped up very quickly.

I think that might be your best strategy in your quest to own an Abell.

Cheers,
Cayden

Ok, if we’re offering unsolicited advice, here’s mine:

Cayden,

You, as a relative newbie, would probably be better off not telling someone who has been around quite long enough know what he wants, what he should probably want instead.

Loren

HI Gabriel,

I have an Abell that is relatively new, certainly so in terms of use. I bought it from another board member last year, who needed the money at the time, and it is in excellent, almost mint condition. It is obviously a tremendous whistle but I find that I play others more often. That’s probably because I own too many D whistles!

I have no working knowledge of the mouthpiece differences you describe but I can take a picture within the next couple of days so you can see this one. My understanding is that it was made in 2009 or 2010. The mouthpiece is at a sharp angle but there is also an obvious albeit subtle, contour to it. It is very comfortable for me.

I’m willing to part with it.

PM if interested.

Loren,

It is clear that you have some 7040 more posts on C & F than myself, and extensive experience with both flutes and whistles. Along with your “status” as a long time member of C & F, and as a prolific poster on the subjects of ITM, flutes and whistles, seems to have
come your need to publicly call me out within the context of this forum, and to emphasize
my lowly position as a “relative newbie” and to make a cynical reference to my offer of
constructive suggestion to Gabriel as an offer of “unsolicited advice”. I am sorry I failed to
recognize your apparent self appointment as the “thought police”. I will admit that I failed
to check the number of posts made by Gabriel, nor did I verify his tenure as a member of C
& F prior to making a suggestion that I thought might help him in his quest to aquire an
Abell Blackwood D Whistle, clearly the profound error of a “relative newbie”. It seems I
must have misunderstood the C & F objective of sharing information in a constructive spirit.
I apologize that I failed to submit my reply to you for your stamp of approval prior to
sending it on to Gabriel. I believe it is clear that my objective was to help Gabriel in his quest to aquire an Abell whistle that met his requirements. Contrarily, I believe the intent of
your post was to illustrate your perceived self importance and knowledge in the context of the open forum, rather than taking the classy path of contacting me via private message and expressing any specific problem you had with my post.

I have known many highly talented and acccomplished people over the years and those that I have admired the most have shared the uncommon trait of humility. Surely someone with your martial arts background understands the importance of humility???

I stand by the “unsolicited advice” that I gave Gabriel. As well, I assume you stand by your
inference that due to my classification as a "relative newbie " that my post somehow lacked
validity or credibility. I would contest any such assertion on your part. Perhaps you should
question your own unsolicited defense of Gabriel.

I hope that Gabriel finds an Abell whistle that meets his needs.

A humble, “relative newbie”,
Cayden

Calm down lads! Cayden, I know your advice was well-meant. You can’t know that I contacted Chris already before I wrote this, and while waiting for a response, I figured “why not try the chiffboard”.

@ecohawk: PM sent!

Gabriel,
Obviously there was no knowledge on my part that you had contacted Chris, nor was their any indication of malice on my part in trying to help. I concur that both your effort to contact Chris and to put out a WTB are both good and reasonable strategies for you to exercise in your search for the Abell that you are hoping for. I am generally a very reasonable guy who likes to help others and treat them with respect. I expect little else in return other than the same courtesy I extend to others. As stated, if Loren had not made an issue of this matter publicly, but rather had voiced his “concern” via a PM, my response specific to this non- issue would have been directed to him via a PM as well. I am glad you realize that I was only trying to help you out. Enough said, I am putting this matter behind me and moving forward. Take care, and I hope that Ecohawk can help you out in your search for an Abell.

Cheers,
Cayden

As a follow-up: I ended up buying ecohawk’s Abell - it was a pure pleasure to deal with him, totally recommended! Great whistle, too.

If anybody has a Abell C body for sale, let me know

Thanks Gabriel. The feeling is mutual and it is a great whistle.
