I have been trying to find info on wrapped tenons (the tyep of string, how to do it…etc), but there is very little info on it on the web and no info in Grey Larsen’s book, The Essential Guide to Irish Flute and Tin Whistle.
So…for all the Casey Burns flute owners out there…how do you care for the wrapped tenons on the your flutes?

He uses #00 reedmaking thread from www.forrestsmusic.com, I think.
I lubricate mine with Bol-Wax. If the joint gets tight, I unwrap a bit of the thread. (There was a 6-inch “extra” bit on each joint when it came.) If it gets loose, I put it back on. The grease keeps the thread from unwrapping–it’s not tied on or anything.
On the website, he recommends Red Ski Wax or beeswax melted together with a bit of vaseline. In the instructions which came with my flute, he recommended Bol-Wax. That’s the “wax” ring (it’s nontoxic industrial-strength petroleum jelly and urethane) which you use to make the seal between a toilet and the drain–98 cents at Home Depot.
