I just discovered yesterday that my bamboo Eb that I made myself can easily go up to the note that on a D flute would be third octave G! It even does the third octave “E” without any trouble. The “A” is flat. I just never thought it would be able to do that so I had never tried before. It is for some reason a good bit easier to go this high on this flute than it is on my trusty little Burns D. I’m kinda surprised. My Burns Bb goes this high easily too, but why would this little homemade bamboo thing be the same way? I didn’t mean to make it third octavey. I played an Olwell Rudall once (yum!) and it was even easier if I remember right.
So I’m having fun playing entire A parts of tunes in the upper register. Whee!
