I’m sure you will all be fighting over this one.

“made from african blackwood which gives it its unique patternisation”
Saying that it’s got lots of sapwood on it would be more accurate I think.
That’s as ugly a stick as I’ve ever seen.
Hmm. I guess it would go well with your basic Black-and-Tan.
(Aha! The perfect pub accessory!)

So this african black wood isn’t actually black, it’s just painted black? Or did I miss something in that picture?
When I first saw the thread title, I thought J.F.K. not J.U.N.K…
Eric
No comparison to this beauty, which is not signed by a Kennedy:
Wow - that’s a nice looking flute. I wonder, however, if the top bidder by mistake entered a “0” too many as the bidding goes from £100.00 to £1,200.00 in a single step?
Maybe he meant £120.00?
Was a big jump wasn’t it! “Reserve met” !!
I don’t think that intermediate steps are recognized if you are trying to meet the reserve.
It is black- the light colored parts are sapwood (the wood that you find on the outside of the tree underneath the bark) as opposed to heartwood, which is of course black or brown in an african blackwood tree. In other words, the flute was turned from pieces of wood that were cut close to the outside of the trunk.
Has anyone heard of this flutemaker?
I went to a whistle workshop of his once. He’s a much respected singer, flute and whistle player from the North of Ireland. He has recorded 1 CD, I think of both songs and tunes, which I haven’t heard. First I’ve heard of him as a flute-maker.
why would a flute signed by a whore master have people fighting over it not to say that he was a bigott in a sectarian organisation the ancient order of the hibernians??? what is the great appeal?
David
I saw that yesterday and that is a very good looking Flute.
Ah hibernians my mother used to grow them, lovely when they flower in April…
david quinn – I believe we’re talking about John Kennedy from Cullybackey in Co.Antrim in the North of Ireland. Since he learned to play the fife in Orange bands , I think it highly unlikely that he was ever a member of the Order Of Hibernians. Who are you talking about, or to be more accurate, abusing ?
I understand that a certain John (F) Kennedy was a member of said Order of Hibernians (& alleged serial womaniser). Given that David Quinn’s email address contains the phrase “orangeandblue” and in one of his previous threads he was looking for instruments to form a flute band in Airdrie, I think we may be gaining an insight into his religious persuasions. Of course he may just be being ironic ![]()
