A whole new (old) spin on computer hardware

The premise that Babbage had actually succeeded in building the Difference Engine (and Analytic Engine) is the basis of the classic Steampunk novel “The Difference Engine” by William Gibson and Bruce Sterling:

I think I’d have to say Lovelace was geekier than Babbage.

Man, just when I thought Steampunk
had already sufficiently oversaturated
the Internet. I figured everyone had
seen a Difference Engine by now.

Here’s a comic that features Lovelace
and Babbage. The site’s hard to navigate,
but it’s amusing enough to try.

I had such high hopes for that novel,
but I find the only part that sticks in
my mind is the singularly unerotic sex
scene.

I only remember the shiny gold on the cover, the insides were good for my chronic insomnia
