Hi folks,
there will be a piping and irish music workshop from the 19th to the 21st of June 2009 in Austria near Vienna. Maybe some of you are interested.
I found the concept quite appealing: There’s one price for the whole weekend and you can choose which workshops you visit. Maybe a good opportunity to improve your piping, learn more about reedmaking plus getting into irish singing..!
There’s more information on http://www.myspace.com/irishmusicworkshop and below I will copy the information email for you.
Cheers,
Philipp
I would like to invite you to participate in an Irish Music Workshop near Vienna, Austria, which I am organising in association with the folkclub “Fiddlersgreen”. It will take place from the 19th until the 21st of June 2009.
We have invited two guest tutors from Ireland: Mickey Dunne (Uilleann Pipes, Whistles) and Batt O’Connor (Song and Bouzouki)
This is the inaugural event and I am hoping for it to be successful enough to continue it annually.
To achieve this, I am counting on your support to help me ‘spread the word’. So, please forward this invitation to anyone you consider interested.
It would be great to establish a prosperous institution that will be beneficial for both austrian and irish musicians.
I am looking forward to a great time of music and inspiration!
Please contact me for any queries!
kind Regards,
Antonia

An exercise in simple conversational Irish enabling you to introduce yourself to the natives if you should ever happen to find yourself in Dingle, Conamara or Donegal
An opportunity to learn a song in the Irish language. Options include a light hearted, easily assimilated lilting song or a more serious, yet still not insurmountable song in the sean-nós style- sean-nós is Gaelic and translates as old way, or ancient manner, of singing.
A pint of Guinness and a song or two in the bar
*Accompaniment on Bouzouki and Guitar **(6x45min with Batt O’Connor)
Harmonising and rhythms of Irish traditional tunes and songs.
*About the tutors:
Mickey Dunne:*
Mickey Dunne and his pipes are a unique and well-known phenomenon in the world of traditional Irish music. Mickey’s style of piping embodies the free-flowing traveller piping style associated with the legendary Johnny Doran, Finbar Furey, and Paddy Keenan, all of whom have provided Mickey with inspiration. Mickey now provides the next generation of pipers with inspiration by his playing and his generosity with his other musical skills. He is a sought after and a welcome presence at tionols (A gathering of Uilleann pipers) around the globe.
Mickey studied the art of Uillean pipe-making under the tutelage of the legendary Cillian O’Briain. He now manufacturers quality instruments in his hometown in Caherconlish, County Limerick. Mickey Dunne is life president of the Thomond Pipers Club in Limerick, an organization recently re-established after the lapse of a century.

Batt O’Connor:
Batt O’Connor is a singer and poet from Gleann Na nGealt, a valley
in the Dingle Peninsula in Co. Kerry, in the South West of Ireland.
His music is strongly influenced by the songs, stories and magic
realism of the place that he grew up in- a beautiful valley in the mountains, overlooking the sea- and by his travels, geographical
and otherwise.
