Are there any reasonably priced small wood lathes on the market? By small, I mean for projects of 12 inches of less. Or maybe ideas on how to mod up a lathe-type device from spare parts?
I want to experiment with making my own bodhran tippers.

Neat find. And close to my home, as well.
You could always go old school with a bow or Treadle lathe.
Pole lathes are easy too.
The Jet JWL-1220 mini lathe is fantastic, especially for the price.

Yep, I’ve got that one. The best thing about it is the availability of the bed extension, so that it becomes a 36"* for about half the price of a “real” 36" lathe.
*I’m talking between centers, not swing, since I do all center turning.
